BANGALORE: Veteran producer and director Dwarakish has blamed "unethical producers, greedy artistes and confused workers" for the crisis in the Kannada cinema industry. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday on the problems confronting the industry, Mr. Dwarakish said that all concerned should stop quarrelling over petty issues and concentrate on the industry's overall development. H said he was not speaking against producers and artistes, who, he claimed, were committed to the cause of Kannada cinema, but added that members of the industry should realise that while it is a business, they still had a responsibility to society. Referring to important issues such as remake productions, he held some leading artistes responsible for the waning of Kannada cinema. Although producers invested the money, the future of the industry was in the hands of those artistes who had been virtually controlling the economy of the industry for selfish reasons, the popular comedian said. While producing a movie based on a story that had already been successful in another language was only a commercial proposition and not a crime, the quality of the theme borrowed and the purpose behind the act should not promote commercialism, he said. He urged the members of the industry to bury their personal prejudices and settle issues through dialogue instead of airing them in public
