Seven arrested, dacoity bid foiled

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The airport police arrested seven persons on charges of attempt to commit dacoity and recovered lethal weapons, including two country-made pistols on Monday night.

The police gave the names of the accused as Purushotham Reddy (34), resident of Begur; Yadubhushana Reddy (23), Devraj (21), Satisha (20), Murugesh (26), Sabesha (28) and Muniraju (26), all residents of Denkanikota.

According to the police, the accused were sitting inside a multi-utility vehicle parked behind the DRDO on NAL Road at around 11 p.m. on Monday. On seeing the police patrol, the driver of the vehicle ran away. The police surrounded the vehicle to find the seven accused with lethal weapons.

On interrogation, the police found that the accused had hatched a plan to commit dacoity by threatening passers by in the lonely area. The police said Purushotham Reddy and Yadubhushana Reddy were accused of murdering Seenappa Reddy two years ago. However, the trial court acquitted them.
