New vulture breeding centre

Siliguri: A vulture breeding centre, the third of its kind in Asia, would be set up at Dharmpul in Nagaon district of Assam by March next year at a cost of Rs. 12 crore.

This was stated by Bombay Natural History Society principal scientist Bibhu Prakash said on Thursday.

Mr. Prakash, who is here to attend a workshop on the status and conservation of vultures in north Bengal, said the new centre, to be set up on five acres, would seek to prevent the extinction of `slender-billed' vultures. — PTI
