Uma Bharti held, released

BHOPAL: Bharatiya Janshakti president Uma Bharti and her supporters were arrested in the State capital on Thursday for violating prohibitory orders. She was later released.

Ms. Bharti, addressed a rally at Yaadgar-e-shahjehani Park before leading a rally to the Jehangirabad square in old Bhopal. She accused the BJP of hatching a conspiracy to kill her.

Ms. Bharti said her life was in danger and that she had received a letter from the police advising her to wear a bullet-proof jacket.

At Jehangirabad square, Ms. Bharti told the police that they should arrest her and all the others accompanying her, against whom an FIR under Section 307 of Indian Penal Code and other sections had been registered, following a violent incident on the last day of polling for the the Malehra Assembly byelection.
