`Cancel allotment of plots in Super Market area'

Special Correspondent

The land belongs to PWD, says Deputy Commissioner

DISCUSSION: Congress leaders meeting Deputy Commissioner Pankajkumar Pandey in Gulbarga on Thursday.

GULBARGA: The Congress has threatened to launch an agitation if the Government fails to cancel the allotment of two prime plots in the Super Market area to a private party, allegedly in violation of rules.

A delegation of the Congress led by former Minister Qamarul Islam, DCC president Allamprabhu Patil and other leaders met Deputy Commissioner Pankajkumar Pandey on Thursday and submitted a memorandum seeking immediate cancellation of the allotment and also sought auction of the plots.

The Deputy Commissioner, who is also the Chairman of the Super Market Committee, told the Congress leaders that neither he nor the Super Market Committee had any role in allotment of plots.

The Public Works Department (PWD), which owned the land, had allotted it to an individual on prices fixed by the Registrar of Stamps and Duties.

It was former labour Minister S.K. Kanta who raised the issue. He had accused the Deputy Commissioner of allotting these plots illegally.

Allegation

Congress leaders said the two plots were allotted to an individual and a Mumbai-based builder had started selling shops in the proposed commercial complex to be built on the two plots, even before the city corporation gave permission for the work.

The Deputy Commissioner said he had already written a letter to the Government to cancel the allotment.

The district administration had also decided not to do the mutation of the plots in the name of the purchaser.

City Corporation officials were told not to accord permission to construct building on the plot.
