Boy murdered

NALGONDA: A 12-year-old boy K. Nagaraju of Marriguda in Nalgonda district was found dead in a toilet of a sawmill under mysterious conditions on Thursday. According to Srinivas, Devarakonda DSP, the boy, an inmate of a local hostel, was last seen at the dining room. "He dined with his friends in the hostel and told his friends he was going home," the DSP said. Strangulation marks were found on the victim's neck. Boy's father K. Yadaiah, a tea stall owner, told the police that there was a land dispute with his brothers. - Staff Reporter

Arms dump unearthed

KARIMNAGAR: The district police recovered five SBBLs and one revolver from a Maoist arms dump at Kanakanoor in Mahamutharam mandal on Thursday. The police said that on information given by a surrendered naxalite, they conducted search operations and recovered the arms. - Staff Reporter

Two Maoists surrender

KADAPA: CPI(Maoist) Kadapa-Anantapur Divisional Committee members — Poluru Venkatadri (21) and Surabhi Gangadhar (16) — surrendered before Y. Nagi Reddy, SP, on Thursday. The duo handed over a tapancha, 11 cartridges and two hand grenades to the SP. The SP said they lacked any perspective and merely wandered in forests carrying firearms, without doing any good to people and hence decided to surrender. - Staff Reporter

CBI probe sought

HYDERABAD: The Struggle Committee Against Caste Discrimination affiliated to the CPI(M) staged a demonstration and burnt the effigy of the Maharashtra Government here on Thursday protesting against the murder of four members of a Dalit family there. Its State secretary John Wesley demanded a CBI inquiry into the murder. - Special Correspondent

Stamp on Deen Dayal

Hyderabad: The Department of Posts will release a postage stamp on Raja Deen Dayal, the court photographer of the Nizams in the 19th Century. The stamp would be released on November 11 at a function to be held in Jubilee Halland attended by Rajya Sabha member Girish Sanghi and the Chief Postmaster General of Andhra Pradesh Yesodhara Menon, according to Nareshchand Deen Dayal, great grandson of Raja Deen Dayal.

TIRUPATI: TTD will modernise its press, where publications worth lakhs of rupees are printed every year. Executive Officer APVN Sarma said that a committee would be set up in a month to work out modalities of modernising the machinery. . — Staff Reporter

Allagadda accident toll reaches six

KURNOOL: The toll in the Allagadda road accident reached six with the death of another victim identified as Narasimhulu. Minister for Lift Irrigation M. Mareppa visited the hospital and gave an amount of Rs. 500 to each of the victim undergoing treatment in the General Hospital. Meanwhile, CPI(M) district secretary T. Shadrak demanded a compensation of Rs. 3 lakh each deceased persons from the firm which engaged them. — Special Correspondent

Digitising manuscripts

TIRUPATI: Director of Andhra Pradesh Government Oriental Manuscripts Library and Research Institute (Hyderabad) Jayadhir Tirumala Rao has hinted at involving the TTD's Sri Venkateswara Digital Library (SVDL) in the prestigious project taken up by the National Mission for Manuscripts to get the ancient manuscripts and palm leaves stored in digital format. — Staff Reporter

DCCB strike called off

KADAPA: Kadapa District Cooperative Central Bank employees called off their weeklong indefinite strike and resumed duties on Thursday.

An agreement was reached on interim relief, promotion of staff and eligible messengers, etc. during discussions held with the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, A.P. Cooperative Central Bank Employees' Association district general secretary Y. Pratap Reddy said. — Staff Reporter

Ex gratia granted

KADAPA: A sum of Rs. 1.50 lakhs was sanctioned on Thursday to the kin of Chenchurami Reddy, a farmer of Alidinne in Veerapunayunipalle mandal, who committed suicide, according to Collector M.T. Krishna Babu.

The amount included Rs. 1 lakh towards ex gratia and Rs. 50,000 towards loan settlement. — Staff Reporter
