WHAT HUES!: Union Minister for Textiles Shankarsinh Vaghela checking out natural dyes at a stall set up by Koreans at an exhibition in Hyderabad on Thursday.
HYDERABAD: Union Minister for Textiles Shankarsinh Vaghela on Thursday called for a concerted effort to popularise and promote use of natural eco-friendly dyes on fabric and other household decorative products. He was addressing a gathering after going around a special exhibition of handicrafts and handlooms organised by the Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation (Lepakshi) in coordination with the Crafts Council of India (CCI) and the Unesco. Mr. Vaghela said the Centre was doing everything it could in the use of natural eco-friendly dyes on handicrafts and handlooms. Such exhibitions, he said, were part of the initiatives and would go a long way in achieving the objective of safeguarding environment. The Minister spent over 45 minutes going around the 150 stalls in the exhibition taking particular care to interact with artisans known for their use of natural eco-friendly dyes in handicrafts and handlooms. He was accompanied by CCI Chairperson Vijaya Rajan. Earlier, Jeyaraj, MD of Lepakshi welcomed the gathering. In all, 80 artisans from across the country are participating in the expo.
