Gulbarga: M.R. Poovamma, an international level player, alongside Shilpa Sundar, Kavya Muthanna and Natasha Sagar in the girls' section and M.G. Joseph and Nikhil Thimmaiah in the boys' section will provide the star cast in the three-day State junior athletics championship, which gets underway at the Chandrashekar Patil Sports Complex from Friday. The performance of the athletes will be keenly watched with the Junior National athletic championships scheduled to be held at Bangalore's Sree Kanteerava stadium from November 25 to 29.
Weather concerns
"The showers, a couple of days ago, has helped solidify the tracks and the outfield and hopefully if the rains stay away, one can expect some heartwarming performances," said Mr. Babu Shetty, the organising secretary of the meet. "Most of the prominent athletes have come down here although some names are missing due to the examinations and the clash of dates with the rural sports meet scheduled at Bijapur from November 12," he added.
