Agriculture institute to be set up in Mewat region

Concern over low literacy rate, 3 KGB schools to be opened

CHANDIGARH: A Krishi Gyan Kendra and an Agriculture Training Institute are to be set up for promotion of agriculture in the Mewat region. This was decided at a meeting of the Mewat Development Board here on Thursday.

The meeting was chaired by Haryana Governor A.R. Kidwai and attended by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Finance Minister Birender Singh, Agriculture Minister H.S. Chatha, Revenue Minister Ajay Singh Yadav, Industries Minister L.D. Arora, Chief Secretary Prem Prashant, Chief Minister's Principal Secretary

M.L. Tayal, Vice-Chancellors of Chaudhari Charan Singh Haryana Agriculture University, Hisar, and Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, local MLAs of Mewat and Member-Secretary of the Board Avtar Singh.

The Board expressed concern at the low literacy rate in the Mewat area and considered proposals for promotion of basic and technical education by setting up it is and three Kasturba Gandhi Bhavan Vidyalayas. And to cope with the scarcity of teachers in the Mewat area, the Board approved continuation of seats already reserved for Mewati women for another five sessions and also gave its nod to upgrade the infrastructure at the Government Elementary Teachers' Training Institute at Ferozpur Namak. As the Mewat area does not have any higher education institute, a Post Graduate Study Centre would be set up by MDU Rohtak.

It also approved of establishment of a Garment Technology Institute in consultation with the Apparel Training and Design Council, Government of India.It also decided to set up a Driving School at ITI Nagina.

And to strengthen the health services, it approved a proposal for providing adequate medical and para-medical staff in the General Hospital, Mandi Khera through outsourcing. Also, a pilot plan for development of Non-conventional energy sources (solar system and wind power energy generation centre) was approved for the Mewat area.

The Board also reviewed the Canal System in Mewat and urged the Government to implement the projects submitted for development of canals. It also asked for development of Kotla Lake as a reservoir of water for drinking and irrigation purposes for which a project worth Rs.44.49 crores has been formulated.

In view of the expansion of industrial activities in the National Capital Region and adjoining areas, the Board approved proposals for expansion and upgrading of Rozka Meo and Hathin Industrial Estates. It also asked the Housing Department to examine the setting up of housing facilities at Punhana and Taoru.

Dr. Kidwai directed that an Advisory Committee be constituted under the Deputy Commissioner associating public men and activists of the area for rendering necessary advice for the all-round social and economic development of the Mewat region. He also directed that a park and a suitable memorial be set up at Gandhi Gram Ghasera where Mahatma Gandhi came after Independence to inspire the youth.
