NEW DELHI: The Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Subhash Arya, on Thursday said the Municipal Commissioner, A. K. Nigam, had assured him that sealing squads would not target vacant properties that were earlier being misused for commercial purposes and those who had changed their business to the list of 22 trades approved by the Supreme Court. Stating that this assurance was given to a group of BJP Councillors who had met Mr. Nigam, Mr. Arya said the Municipal Commissioner would take up this matter with the apex court-appointed Monitoring Committee so that relief could be provided to more traders. "We have also asked to include more non-polluting and office-related activities in the list of professional jobs," he added.
Constructions
The BJP Councillors has also asked Mr. Nigam to spped up the process of regularising unauthorised constructions that have been covered under the new building by-laws, besides including more roads and streets in the list of mixed land use and commercial categories. Meanwhile, more Congress Councillors forwarded their resignations to the Leader of the House, Jitender Kochar. So far, 78 Congress Councillors have resigned. Similarly, the Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Onkar Singh Thapar also forwarded his resignation to his party leader Parkash Singh Badal. However, till all these resignations are submitted to Mayor Farhad Suri and forwarded for necessary action, all these Councillors would continue to serve the MCD.
