MANGALORE: The Venoor police led by Sub-Inspector Jayanand K. seized deer pelts and arrested two persons from Moodigere taluk in Chikmagalur district in this connection on Wednesday. The two persons have been identified as M. Usman (23), a resident of Kalasa village, and Keshav (22) of Thotathuru village in Moodigere taluk, according to a press release from Superintendent of Police B. Dayananda here. The release said that based on a tip-off, the police had started checking all vehicles at Aladangadi in Badagakarandur village. The accused had reportedly hidden the pelts beneath the rexin cover on the seat of the motorcycle they were riding. The hunting of deer is banned under the Wildlife Protection Act. The accused had reportedly purchased the pelts and kept it with them to sell to prospective buyers. The police have also seized the motorcycle used by the accused.
