THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: This year's Sathyan national award, instituted by the Sathyan Foundation, was presented to actor Nedumudi Venu, here on Thursday. The award was given away by Kerala University Vice-Chancellor M.K. Ramachandran Nair at a ceremony organised at the Senate Hall. The programme got off to a start with the song Uthishtatha jagratha... sung by the late Sathyan's son, Jeevan Sathyan, and granddaughter, Asha Jeevan Sathyan. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Venu said he felt proud and happy when he learnt that he had been chosen as the recipient of this year's Sathyan award. "When I was young, there were two sets of people. One group that would speak for Sathyan and the other who were for Prem Nazeer. I was with those who were with Sathyan," he said. "As far as an actor in Malayalam cinema is concerned there is no greater award," he added.
