Security alert at airport

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: In the wake of an alleged Al Qaeda threat to airports in Chennai and other South Indian cities, security has been tightened at the HAL airport here.

According to Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials here, the security at the airport was already high and had been strengthened further. Security measures were reviewed on Thursday, in keeping with the airport's stature as a hypersensitive area. Additional security measures had been taken, the officials said.

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) sources told The Hindu that anti-hijacking and anti-sabotage surveillance had been strengthened at the airport.
