Staff Reporter

MOTORISTS-FRIENDLY: Superintendent of Police Sonal V. Misra affixing red stickers on cycles at Gangapuram in Erode on Thursday.

ERODE: As part of the `Meet the Villagers' programme, Superintendent of Police Sonal V. Misra along with Additional Superintendent of Police M. Sundararajan visited Gangapuram, Rangampalayam, Vijayamangalam, Engure and Avalpoondurai villages on Wednesday and Thursday. She received 135 petitions on Wednesday and 527 on Thursday.

The Superintendent of Police said of the total petitions, only 20 petitions were related to police matters. The other petitions would be sent to the departments concerned for action.

In two days, seven Deputy Superintendents of Police, 22 Inspectors, 66 Sub-Inspectors visited more than 710 villages and received 2,622 petitions. Of these only 150 petitions are related to the police.

Ms Misra said the villagers were submitting petitions with enthusiasm and this showed that the programme was a success.

She said by sending the petitions to the respective departments for action, many agitations and law and order problems could be avoided.

Ms. Misra also affixed red stickers on the rear side of cycles and other two-wheelers. She said it would help other vehicles see the two-wheelers from distance and avoid accidents.

Traffic Squad

The SP has also started a Traffic Squad with a Sub-Inspector and four constables in Erode.

The squad would go to places where the traffic and local police could not be deployed.

Cases

The personnel would detect the traffic violation cases and hand over the erring persons with the respective jurisdiction police station for registering cases, she said.
