Stone laid for houses for the tsunami-affected

Islamic Foundation Trust's initiative

PUDUCHERRY: The foundation stone for the construction of 50 houses for the tsunami-affected victims of Rahmath Nagar in Kottakuppam was laid on Friday.

The houses to be built by the Islamic Foundation Trust with assistance from various Islamic organisations, including Muslim Aid, U.K, would come up at Chinnakottakuppam.

Abdul Haq Ansari, president of Human Welfare Trust and chairman of Islamic Academy, New Delhi laid the foundation stone in the presence of Ebrahimsa Muhammed, advisor of Muslim Aid.

Each house has a built area of around 325 square feet and all the houses have lavatories at the rear side.

Each house will cost around Rs. 400 per square feet. Mr. Ansari appealed to the members of the foundation to promote harmony and peace so that people can lead a happy life.

In his address Mr. Ebrahimsa said the Muslim Aid had been extending humanitarian assistance to several countries constructing houses and putting up infrastructure to help the victims of natural calamities.

On Thursday, the foundation handed over 100 houses to the tsunami victims in Thethi village, Nagore, Nagapattinam.

The cluster of 100 houses spread over six acres of land had been constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.5 crore.

Others, who participated at the function, include S.J Banumathy, president of Kottakuppam town panchayat and Mrs. Bader Sayeed.
