BUSAN (South Korea): Transportation and Railway Ministers of 17 Asian countries and Russia signed an agreement here on Friday on a trans-Asian railway network, paving the way for further development of the 81,000-km trans-continental railway network in Asia. The agreement, signed by Ministers of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Laos, Mongolia, Nepal, South Korea, Russia, Sri Lanka, Tajikstan, Thailand, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Vietnam, is regarded as a major breakthrough in accelerating the establishment of an international transport system in the Asia-Pacific region. The Trans-Asian Railway Network starts on the Pacific seaboard of Asia and ends on the doorstep of Europe. It comprises 81,000 km of railway lines passing through 28 countries. Xinhua
