CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Information Commissioner G. Ramakrishnan on Friday said any Indian citizen seeking information under the Right to Information Act, 2005, need not cite any reason. Speaking at a function organised by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Chennai, Mr. Ramakrishnan said the public information officer or the assistant public information officer attached to the respective organisation was obliged to provide a proper acknowledgement for the information sought by the citizen.
"Public interest"
Pointing out that no refusal or rejection of dissemination of information could be made under the Right to Information Act, the Information Commissioner wanted information seekers to ensure that their exercise served public interest. All public sector organisations, non-governmental organisations, voluntary agencies, the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Central Vigilance Commission come under the purview of the Right to Information Act.
