TDP for fact-finding panel on weavers' deaths

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu has dared the Government to constitute a fact-finding committee to look into weavers' deaths in the State.

Addressing cadres at the party headquarters here on Saturday evening, he said if the Government formed the committee, the TDP would furnish a list of 477 weavers who committed suicide since the Congress came to power in the State.

He administered the oath to office-bearers of the newly-formed Weavers' Cell in the party headed by former Minister Nimmala Kristappa. Former APCO chairman and ex-MP, R. Ramachandraiah presided.

Mr. Naidu regretted that despite 477 weavers taking their lives, the Government had not reacted.

He said thousands of looms in the flood-hit districts were damaged beyond repair. He said the party was fielding a leader of the weavers' community, L. Ramana, as its candidate for the Karimnagar Lok Sabha byelection.
