VIJAYAWADA: Industrial estates in Autonagar and Kanuru will sport a new look with infrastructure like internal roads and pavements, stormwater drains, drinking water supply and effluent treatment plant. Local MP L. Rajagopal will lay foundation stone for the first phase of development works at Autonagar industrial estate on Sunday. Two stretches of roads would be laid in the industrial estate in the first phase.
Upgradation scheme
Thanks to the `Auto Cluster' project, under which the Central Government would provide a grant of 75 per cent for these works and the State Government would bear 10 per cent of the expenses, the industrial area is going to get a facelift. Vijayawada Auto Cluster Development Company Limited (VACDCL), the special purpose vehicle (SPV) of the local industry, would bear the balance amount. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Managing Director of the VACDCL V. Rajendra Prasad said that the Government of India, under Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation Scheme (IIUS), sanctioned seven projects with a total cost of Rs. 31.08 crores. In the first instalment, the Central Government released Rs. 7.80 crores and the State Government sanctioned the matching grant of Rs. 1.04 crores.
Infrastructure
The VACDCL would add its share of Rs. 1.37 crores and spend a total sum of Rs. 10.21 crores on development of roads and pavements in Jawahar Autonagar, stormwater drains in Kanuru Autonagar, supply of drinking water and construction of effluent treatment plant. One road from RTC bus terminal to the Industrial Area Local Authority (IALA) office would cost Rs. 1.45 crores, while the second road between the first cross and the eighth cross of Autonagar industrial estate would be laid at an outlay of Rs. 1.91 crores.
Common centres
Mr. Prasad said that plans were afoot to construct a trade centre near fire station in Autonagar, besides setting up common machinery centre and common testing centre. Bangalore-based Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI) would provide technical support for the proposed common machinery centre, where information about advanced machinery would be available for the industrialists.
Directors of the VACDCL Abdul Aziz, M.a. Khalik, A. Sivaji and others were present.
