Manipal, Abhinav make merry

HYDERABAD: K. Manipal Reddy with seven goals and S. Abhinav Reddy (5) fashioned Vijaya HS's thumping 15-0 win over Government HS (Shaikhpet) in the third, annual V. Purushotham memorial inter-school hockey tournament here on Saturday.

Malik Md. Jawad, Mahesh and Sai Pavan Kumar were the other scorers.

In another match Mamatha HS defeated Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan School (BHEL) 8-7 via sudden death tie-breaker.

Seshu keeps lead

P.V.V. Seshu continued to be the sole leader with six points at the end of the sixth round of the 14th annual, YMCA Tatipalli Gopalakrishna prize money chess tournament here.

Globetrotters

Two players from the renowned Harlem Globetrotters interacted with students of the St. Andrew's HS. Michael St. Julien and Robert Turner demonstrated the nuances of the sport and their magical skills.

The Globetrotters would be playing exhibition matches on November 15 and 16 at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium. "The tremendous interest and amount of talent here is very encouraging," he said.

Earlier, the two players also spent some time with the State players at the Secunderabad YMCA.

Cancelled

The 29th sub-junior inter-district volleyball championship for boys and girls to be held in Karimnagar from November 23 to 26 has been cancelled, according to L. Venkatram Reddy, secretary of the AP Volleyball Association.

However, the selection trials for the State teams will be held at Lal Bahadur Stadium on November 23 and 24. All affiliated units may send two or three players along with age proof certificates. Boys born on or after January 1, 1991, and girls born on or after January 1, 1992 are eligible to take part in the trials.
