Bangalore: The National Cricket Academy (NCA) is all set to have the latest gym equipment. The NCA committee, which met under the chairmanship of Kapil Dev here on Saturday, approved a proposal to replace the existing gym equipment with the latest state-of-the-art technology. "The equipment here is almost six years old and is getting outdated and besides we were also worried about players getting hurt. So the committee has decided to send a proposal to the BCCI for replacing the equipment. The budget is around Rs. one crore and we have short-listed a few gym equipment companies," said Shivlal Yadav, NCA director. The need to test astroturf artificial pitches that can be used for indoor nets and training under-15 players at the zonal academies, were the other proposals mooted by the committee. "We are testing astroturf pitches here and if they are fine, then we might use them at the indoor nets. The existing pitches are wearing out, especially at the batting end," Shivlal Yadav said. Saturday's meeting, attended by BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah, joint secretary M.P. Pandove, NCA vice-chairman Ajay Shirke, director-coaching Lalchand Rajput and other members, was also chairman Kapil Dev's first official meeting at the academy.
