THRISSUR: Mohammedali, 49, a Pakistani national, was arrested on Saturday from Andathodu near Thangalppadi in Thrissur district of Kerala.
Passports seized
Police seized Indian and Pakistan passports possessed by him. He was grilled by top police officials for about 15 hours. Mohammedali was staying at Andathodu in the Vadakkekkad police station limits with his wife Ramla, 30. He has been arrested under charges of having overstayed his visa and secured an Indian passport by furnishing false information. He had also allegedly furnished an Indian election identity card to clear police verification for getting the passport.
No evidence
Superintendent of Police T. Chandran told The Hindu that a special team was investigating whether Mohammedali had terrorist links. "We have no evidence as such to say that he was involved in subversive activities. But terrorist links cannot be ruled out. Investigations reveal that he was regularly making telephone calls to Pakistan. May be, he made these calls to contact his relatives. Preliminary reports point out that a person from Bangalore had helped Mohammedali get an Indian passport," Mr. Chandran said. Son of Moidutty of Vangaladh House at Kanjoor in Malappuram district, Mohammedali went to Pakistan from Kerala at the age of five. He has a wife and eight children in Pakistan. He married another woman, Ramla, daughter of Kunjumon of Nambissery House in Perumpadappu, on November 13, 2005. She was pregnant, the police said.
