American College HSS enters last four

Madurai: Defending Champion American College Higher Secondary School, Madurai, entered the semifinal of the 15th annual Jayaraj Chelladurai Trophy State-level inter-school basketball tournament defeating DPTR Higher Secondary School, Myladuthurai, 70-46 at Nagamalai, near here on Saturday.

The results:

Quarterfinals: American College HSS 70 (Arunvel 18, Arun Kumar 17, Saravanan 13) bt DPTR HSS, Myladuthurai 46 (Velmurugan 15); St. Mary's HSS, Madurai 55 (P. Arul Jeyaraj 28, A. Ashwin 10) bt St. Peter's HSS, Thanjavur 31 (Sridhran 14).

Pre-quarterfinals: American College HSS 56 (S. Arunvel 16, Radhakrishnan 11) bt Jawahar HSS Neyveli 29 (Karthikeyan 13); St. Mary's HSS, Madurai 60 (Jenifer 28, Srinivasan 17) bt NSVV HSS, Pattiveeranpatti 40 (Gridharan 24, Nishanth 10).

St. John's boys shine

At Tirunelveli, boys from the St. John's Higher Secondary School, Palayamkottai, cornered glory by clinching most of the boxing titles in the Tirunelveli divisional inter-educational schools new games meet at Anna Stadium, Palayamkottai, on Saturday.

Super-seniors (boys under-19): 45-48kg: S. Vikram Prabhu (IIPE Lakshmi Raman HSS, Pkt). 51-54kg: R. Raviraj. 54-57kg: L. Hariharan (Chimmaya Vidyalaya HSS, Pkt). 60-64kg: D. Manikandan. 64-69kg: J. Satheesh Babu. 71-75kg: J. Joseph John Samuel. 81-91kg: R. Rajeshkannan.

Seniors (boys U-17): 40-44kg: S. Sethu. 44-48kg: A. Vinoth Raja; 52-56kg: M. Kasirajan. 56-60kg: M. Rutherford. 75-81kg: Honest Raj.

Cycle road race

At Tuticorin, TMBM Higher Secondary School, Ottapidaram, won all the three gold medals at stake in girls' section in the cycle road race.

The results: All winners:

Boys: U-19: Krishna Kumar (VOC Govt. HSS, Ottapidaram). U-17: Arul Selva Kumar (TMBM HSS). U-14: Kalaiselvan (Govt. HSS, Kurukkusalai).

Girls: U-19: Perumalammal. U-17: Amitha Mary. U-14: Tamil Selvi.

GHSS (S.S. Kottai) wins

At Paramakudi, Government Higher Secondary School (SS Kottai) claimed the girls' under-19 handball title defeating St. Justin Girls HSS (Sivagangai) 7-0 in the Ramanathapuram divisional inter-educational district schools games meet on Saturday.

In the boys' under-19 throwball final, Srivilliputhur Lions Matriculation HSS beat Government HSS (Pappanaickenpatti) 15-11, 15-14.
