NEW DELHI: Six goals by Athar Mirza powered Union Academy Senior Secondary School to a 10-2 triumph over St. Ignatius High School, Gumla, in the 35th Nehru junior hockey tournament here on Saturday. The victory helped the Delhi team make the semifinals, as it pipped Bangladesh Institute of Sports and SGPS Academy, Sri Bhaini Sahib, on better goal difference after the three teams had tied with six points each. Ashok Kumar, Mayank James, Sarfaraz Ahmad and Ashok Kumar Soni were the other marksmen for the winner. Anil Ekka and Jagannath reduced the margin for the Gumla team. In last four, Town High School, Sundergarh, will play Union Academy. The other semifinal will see Government Model High School, Chandigarh, take on Group IV winner. Three teams, Army Boys Sports Company, Danapur; Government Model High School, Ladowal, Jalandhar and Guru Harkrishan Public School, Punjabi Bagh, had tied with two points each and the same number of goals for and against. A tie-breaker will be played among the three teams to decide the winner Other results: Bangladesh Institute of Sports 2 (Sayed Al Masum, Mohammed Golam Mostafa Manik) bt Sat Guru Partap Singh Academy, Sri Bhaini Sahib 1 (Manpreet Singh); Army Boys Sports Company, Danapur 1 (Chandan Aind) drew with Government Model Senior Secondary School, Ladowal, Jalandhar (Harbir Singh).
