Double for Bangalore South

GULBARGA : Bangalore South bagged a double in the State-level badminton tournament at the Chandrashekar Patil Indoor stadium here on Friday.

While the South boys led by M.D. Anup Kiran and Adithya Prakash downed Belgaum 2-0, the South girls blanked Bangalore North by an identical 2-0 margin.

The results: Boys: Final: Bangalore South bt Belgaum 2-0 (M.D. Anup Kiran bt Darshan Kulkarni 21-16, 21-10; Anup Kiran & Adithya Prakash bt Darshan & Dhruv Shankar 21-12, 21-13).

Semifinals: Belgaum bt Bangalore North 2-0; Bangalore South bt Dakshina Kannada 2-0. Quarterfinals: South bt Mysore 2-0; Dakshina Kannada bt Davangere 2-0; North bt Dharwad 2-1; Belgaum bt Shimoga 2-1.

Girls: Final: Bangalore South bt Bangalore North 2-0 (Monisha Vinayak bt G.M. Nischitha 19-21, 21-18, 23-21; Monisha & Shruti Sridhar bt Nischita & Varsha 20-22, 21-13, 21-13). Semifinals: Bangalore South bt Belgaum 2-0; Bangalore North bt Dharwad 2-1.

Puneeth, Poojitha win

P. Puneeth and Poojitha won the sub-junior boys and girls titles respectively in the State table tennis championship at Shimoga. In the finals, Puneeth defeated Pavan Raj 9-11, 13-11, 13-11, 11-6 while Poojitha defeated Bhavana V. Murthy 11-6, 11-5, 12-11.

Meanwhile in the non-medallist singles final, Akshay Mahanta defeated G. Premchander 9-11, 11-2, 11-8, 9-11, 11-3.

Srinivasamurthy

At Bangalore, B.V. Srinivasamurthy defeated Arvind Savur 822-802 in a State ranking senior billiards tournament match at the KSBA Hall on Saturday evening.

Other results: B. Bhaskar bt Duncan Mackanzie 1352-430; C. Kishore Kumar bt Balaji Reddy 631-592; D. Raj Kumar bt Sajan Bopanna 1077-474.

School league basketball

The inaugural National schools league basketball championship will be held at the Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium here from Nov. 14 to 19. "It will be the first time that we are having a schools league basketball championship and we hope the presence of the Harlem Globetrotters will inspire the children to perform better," said K. Govindaraj, secretary, Karnataka State Basketball Association.

The teams: St. Ephrem's HSS, Kottayam; Delhi Public School, Delhi; Don Bosco, Mumbai; Hyderabad Public School; St. Paul's HSS, Salem; Don Bosco, Kolkata; Everest Public School, Ludhiana; and Mallya Aditi International School, Bangalore.

KSP beats

Spikers Jayanagar

KSP defeated Spikers Jayanagar 25-15, 25-16, 25-15 in a State A division women's volleyball league match at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium outdoor courts here on Saturday.

Later KSP also defeated Mandya 25-16, 25-21, 25-12, while SAI defeated Shimoga 25-11, 25-14, 25-12.

Kho-kho tournament
