Ex gratia granted

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy sanctioned Rs.2 lakh as ex gratia to the families of E. Bhushaiah, constable and Babu Rao, a lance nayak, who died in a boat tragedy when Malleswaram MLA B. Vedavyas was visiting flood affected areas recently. The boat capsized near Nuvvuluru village on November 4 in which the two were washed away. The MLA escaped. — Special Correspondent

Army recruitment

HYDERABAD: A recruitment rally will be conducted by the Army Recruiting Office, Secunderabad, at Mahabubnagar from December 8 to 12 for the posts of soldiers. Documents will be screened on December 8, 9 and 10. The districts to be covered are Hyderabad, Kurnool, Mahabubnagar, Warangal, Karimnagar, Medak, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, Adilabad and Nizamabad. — Special Correspondent

Insurance for pilgrims

HYDERABAD: The Oriental Insurance Company Ltd will provide insurance cover for Ayyappa devotees from the date of the commencement of the journey till they return to the place of origin or 30 days, whichever is earlier. The insurance cover can be had by paying a premium of Rs.15 for each devotee by DD/cash.

Arms dump unearthed

KARIMNAGAR: The police unearthed an arms dump of CPI Maoists and recovered one DBBL, one SBBL and a revolver from the fields in Kanakanoor village of Mahamutharam mandal on Friday, SP D.S. Chauhan said on Saturday. — Staff Reporter

3 held, idols seized

KARIMNAGAR: The police arrested three persons and recovered panchaloha idols of Vishveshwara Swamy, Chandeeshwara Swamy and Durga Devi, worth about Rs 15 lakhs, here on Saturday. SP, D.S. Chauhan said that Sheik Qutobuddin (34), Sheik Khasim Peera (43) of Guntur and Abdul Mujeer Ahmed (45) of Adilabad stole them from a temple in Bobbaralanka, Krishna district in June. — Staff Reporter

Piaggio presents 3-wheeler to TTD

TIRUPATI: Piaggio Vehicles presented its `APE' model three-wheeler to the temple of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala on Saturday, as a thanksgiving for achieving the distinction of selling four lakh vehicles in a period of six years.

Company Director (Sales) Ashutosh Khosla handed over the keys of the 1.3 tonne delivery van to TTD Executive Officer A.P.V.N. Sarma at the temple. - Staff Reporter

SVU professor for Japan meet

TIRUPATI: M. Krishnaiah, Professor in the Department of Physics, SV University has been invited to attend the 7th conference of Asian Crystallographic Association and Crystallographic Society of Japan to be held in Tsukuba, Japan between November 20-23.

The professor would present a paper on `Molecular structures of novel pesticides'. - Special Correspondent

Tank repairs under NREGS

ANANTAPUR: One tank in each village would be repaired under the NREGS, District Collector D. Kadmiel said on Friday. Works had already been sanctioned and they would be grounded soon.

He said about 2.09 lakh persons had benefited from wage employment provided under the scheme so far. A total of Rs. 37 crores was paid as wages to the labourers by creating 33.27 lakh mandays, he said. - Staff Reporter

Legal services week celebrations

KURNOOL: Senior Civil Judge told undertrials at the sub-jail here on Saturday that the judiciary was concerned about the rights of undertrials. Interacting with undertrials as part of the legal services week celebrations, he said undertrials need not worry about their long stay in the jail as the judiciary, police and jails staff were monitoring each case.

Blood donation camp inaugurated

KADAPA: High Court Judge C.V. Nagarjuna Rao on Saturday called upon officials and NGOs to organise blood donation camps in a big way in the district.

Speaking after inaugurating a mega blood donation camp organised by Annamayya Lions Club at Rajampet Government hospital, the Judge appealed to youth to liberally donate blood in order to save critically injured accident victims. Some 400 persons donated blood at the camp. - Staff Reporter
