DIG stresses action plan to check Maoists

Santosh Patnaik

BERHAMPUR: New DIG of Berhampur Range Arun Kumar Ray has emphasised the need to implement an action plan for modernisation of the police force and filling vacancies to keep Maoists under check. Interacting with reporters after taking charge from S.K Upadhay, who has been posted as DIG of Central Range, Cuttack, he said on Saturday that he would focus on increase in operational preparedness following increase in the activity of the banned outfit in the areas bordering Andhra Pradesh.

"Their activity is relatively not much. We don't face problems like attack on police stations as in Andhra Pradesh, Chattisgarh and other states. But there is no scope for complacency and we have to stay on high alert. Hence, operational preparedness is a must,'' he told a questioner.

Mr. Ray, a 1988 batch IPS officer, was posted here after completing central deputation as DIG of North East Operations and Commandant of CISF at Kolkata port, said he would also stress developmental activities as extremism was a socio-economic problem.

Outgoing DIG Upadhay thanked the media for their cooperation during his stint. Berhampur SP Dayal Gangwar was present.
