Major Gopi Singh
NEW DELHI: A memorial meeting was organised here over the weekend to pay homage to Major Gopi Singh on the first anniversary of his martyrdom. Major Gopi Singh had laid down his life fighting terrorists in Arin village of Kashmir Valley on November 10 last year.

During the memorial meeting over the weekend, participants recalled that the officer was exceptional in every sense of the term. S. N. Sahu, Director in the Prime Minister's Office, paying his homage recalled his association with Major Gopi Singh for four-and-a-half years in Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Other friends who were closely associated with Major Gopi Singh underlined his outstanding qualities as a poet and humanist. Raj Vaisoha expressed his amazement at Major Gopi Singh's ability to write such fine pieces of poetry in spite of his hard duty and punishing schedule as a soldier.
Major Gopi Singh had been honoured with Shaurya Chakra for his gallantry and bravery.
