BELLARY: Activists of the district unit of Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) held demonstrations here on Friday in protest against awarding death sentence to the former President of Iraq Saddam Hussein. They burnt the effigy of U.S. President George Bush at Gadagi Chennappa Circle here and termed the U.S. action as illegal. Addressing the gathering, K. Somashekar, SUCI District Secretary, accused the U.S. and Britain of conducting an inquiry according to their whims and fancies and throwing all international laws to the wind. Mr. Bush and British prime Minister Tony Blair had conspired to take over the oil reserves in Iraq and waged a war on the pretext that the country possessed weapons of mass destruction and were responsible for killing of over nine lakh people.
