Food technologists to receive awards

They will be honoured at a function in Hyderabad on November 16


  • Subhash Bhatnagar Memorial Award for CFTRI scientist
  • Association of food scientists announced the awards

    MYSORE: The Association of Food Scientists and Technologists India (AFSTI) has announced fellowships and awards for 2005 for scientists in recognition of their contribution to the field of food science and technology.

    The awards will be conferred at the inaugural function of the 18th Indian Convention of Food Scientists and Technologists (ICFOST) 2006 to be held in Hyderabad on November 16, according to a release issued by the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) here.

    The Prof. V. Subramanyan Industrial Achievement Award 2005 will be conferred on B. Raghuramaiah, promoter, director and CEO of Food Ingredient Specialities Ltd., Chennai.

    The Dr. H.A.B. Parpia Award instituted for credible achievements in the field of planning and management of food processing industries has been awarded to Ravi Naware, CEO, Foods Business of ITC. The Sharada Charan Das Memorial Indigenous Food Science and Technology Award for Excellence will be conferred on Ram P. Aneja for his services to the dairy sector while he was in the National Dairy Development Board .

    The Young Scientist Award for stimulating high quality scientific and technological research will be conferred on Pradyuman Kumar, Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology. Narpinder Singh, professor of Food Technology in Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, has been recognised for his original and innovative research and has been awarded the Laljee Godhoo Smarak Nidhi Award 2005.

    The Prof. J.S. Sidhu Award has been conferred on Pratap Charaborthy of Jadavpur University, West Bengal, for his contribution to human resource development in food science and technology while the Subhash Bhatnagar Memorial Award that honours and encourages technicians and auxiliary workers for their scientific contributions for industrial productivity has been conferred on T. Ramesh of CFTRI, Mysore.

    The Dr. J.S. Pruthi Award has been conferred on Susanta Kumar Roy for his contribution to the development of fruits and vegetable processing industries.
