KARIMNAGAR: The Congress won the byelection for the MPTC member in Gambhiraopeta mandal headquarters, which falls in the Karimnagar Parliament constituency on Friday. Congress candidate G. Lingam Yadav won the MPTC seat with record majority of 407 votes against his nearest TRS rival, Ch. Venkat Swamy. The TDP was placed third in the election. The Congress candidate polled 798 votes, the TRS secured 391 votes and the TDP 172 votes. In Mahabubnagar, the party retained three Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies in Kothakota mandal and lost two constituencies to its rebel candidates to which byelections were held on Thursday.
