CHENNAI: The State Police headquarters has deputed two police officers for reviewing security in all major airports in Tamil Nadu. The Inspector-General of Police (Intelligence) and the Superintendent of Police (Security) will visit the airports and look into various security aspects and present a report, Director-General of Police D. Mukherjee has said. The officers have already visited the Chennai airport. Mr. Mukherjee said no time frame had been fixed for submitting the report. Security would be beefed up wherever necessary. At the airports, internal security was taken care of by the Central Industrial Security Force. The local police handled access control, outer security and parking of vehicles. While parking had been almost streamlined, extra personnel had been deployed for outside security. There was good coordination between the CISF and the local police on the security arrangements and sharing of intelligence. He said security in major seaports would also be reviewed. There too, internal security was handled by the CISF with the police taking care of outer security. Police sources reiterated that there was no Al-Qaeda threat to the State. A general alert had been sounded now.
