Pirated CDs seized, nine held

CHENNAI:
The video piracy wing police arrested nine persons and seized about 10,000 CDs of new Tamil films worth Rs. 10 lakh here on Saturday.
On a tip-off that the movies of many latest arrivals were clandestinely stored in specific points and were about to be circulated in the markets, the video piracy wing personnel conducted search operations in Flower Bazaar, Ekattuthangal, Pondy Bazaar, Saligramam, Nandanam and Poonamallee areas.
The three teams seized movies including Dharmapuri, Varalaaru and gave the names of the arrested as A. Kaja Moideen (28), K. Subramani (29), L Sasikumar (32), S Kader Naina (32), M Murugan (21), S. Ashok Kumar (22), R. Ramesh (21) among others. A case under the Copyrights Act was registered and the accused were remanded to custody, a spokesman said.
Ganja seized
Police arrested two men from Gudalur in a hotel near Egmore railway station and seized 23.25 km of ganja on Saturday. Nehru and Karuppu had confessed to having brought the ganja from Visakapattinam and planned to smuggle it to Kerala.
