HYDERABAD: A two-day surgical camp for rehabilitation of the physically-challenged persons commenced at the Apollo Hospitals here on Saturday. `Aakar Asha' a voluntary organisation is sponsoring the surgery of the disabled from economically deprived sections of society.

"Mostly children and a few adults with deformities of cleft, burns, contraction of feet and hands, besides deformities of birth and trauma will be treated during the camp", said Bharatendu Swain, cosmetic surgeon, Apollo Hospitals.

These patients were identified during the screening camp held at Mahboobnagar in September. Out of a total 300 cases, 67 were operated.

The remaining cases would be covered in monthly camps at the Apollo Hospital at the rate of 20 per month. Since its inception in 2001, `Aakar Asha' has sponsored surgical rehabilitation of 310 persons, Dr. Swain said.
