HYDERABAD: Hyderabad is preparing itself for the winter with several Tibetans putting up stalls selling colourful woollen items like beautiful shawls, woollen sweaters, caps and scarves.

Over 120 Tibetans under the aegis of Tibetan Refugees Welfare Association have recently opened their stalls at Ameerpet, Chaderghat and Mehdipatnam to sell woollen winter care garments. Beautiful shawls, sweaters, woollen caps and scarves in dark shades of blue, pink, purple and polo neck children's fur sweaters are displayed in the stalls.

Uniform rates

Prices depend on the quality of wool. Children's sweater ranges from something between Rs. 70 and Rs. 200 while the rest of the varieties ranges from Rs. 300 to Rs. 800. Uniform rates have been fixed for all varieties of products in order to avoid confusion among sellers as well as buyers, according to Association president Tenzin Tsewang.

For many, it's a sheer waste of money to buy winter care garments from big malls in the city where winter is not very cold. Therefore, most of them prefer to buy the woollen garments from Tibetans' stalls. The Association took permission from the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority and put up stalls for first time in an open land adjacent to the Maitrivanam building in Ameerpet, Tenzin explained. "We purchase woollen garments from Ludhiana in Punjab during monsoon season itself and start selling them from October end every year. Sales will continue till February," he said.
