Man `murdered' by son

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A person, who joined the contract labourer job of his father in Rajendrangar municipality since the latter fell sick, allegedly killed his father on Friday hoping to secure the post permanently.

The victim P. Venkataiah, 65, was alone in the house at Shivarampally Weaker Sections colony when his son Ramulu attacked him with a knife and later strangled him to death, the police said.

According to Rajendranagar Inspector Ch. Srikanth, Ramulu decided to eliminate his father when his friends told him that he could stick on to the contract worker job in the event of his father's death.

"He stabbed his father on the chin with a knife before strangling him to death and fled," he explained.

Alerted by the old man's cries, neighbours called in the police.

By the time police arrived, Ramulu ran away.

`Killed' by brother

A person, who was beating up his wife in drunken condition, was killed by his younger brother at Dilsukhnagar after midnight on Friday, the Saroornagar police said.

E. Srinivas, 30, a timber depot worker, used to live with his wife Swaroopa, two children and younger brother Nagesh in a rented house at Municipal colony. According to police, Srinivas picked up an argument with his wife under the influence of alcohol and began to thrash her when Nagesh tried to pacify him.

"After trying in vain to calm down his brother, an angry Nagesh showered blows on Srinivas who fell unconscious," the police said. Worried family members shifted Srinivas to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Nagesh was taken into custody.
