One arrested on cheating charge

NEW DELHI: An engineering graduate who along with his parents allegedly cheated a Delhi-based jeweller of more than Rs.2 crores by offering a bogus rice export deal has been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi police.

While his father was arrested in the same case in 2000, his mother is still absconding.

The accused, P. Uday Kumar, was arrested when he was about to board an international flight in Hyderabad on November 4.

Six held for auto-thefts

NEW DELHI: Six young men have been arrested from different parts of the Capital for alleged involvement in auto-theft cases.

Three of the accused -- Sumit, Rakesh and Raj Mohammad -- were arrested when they were riding an allegedly stolen motorcycle at Narela in North-West Delhi on Friday. The motorcycle was found stolen from Prashant Vihar.

At their instance, the police recovered six more stolen motorcycles and arrested an auto mechanic, Kuldeep, for his alleged involvement in the thefts.

In another case, Ashok Kumar and Rajesh were intercepted at Preet Vihar in East Delhi when they were riding an allegedly stolen motorcycle. Investigations revealed that it had been stolen from Paharganj last month.

Fire at T B hospital

New Delhi: A fire broke out at the T. B. Hospital in the Kingsway camp area of North Delhi gutting six rooms, fire brigade officials said on Saturday.

The officials said they received a call at 2.54pm4s and rushed eight fire tenders to the spot which put out the blaze in a short time.

There were no injuries reported and only furniture in the rooms as well as medicines in one room were destroyed due to the fire, said officials.

The reason for the fire was not yet known, they added.

Run over by truck

NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old youth died when a truck hit his motorcycle from behind in the Ambedkar Nagar area in South Delhi on Saturday.

He has been identified as Sujit, a resident of Dakshinpuri.

He was immediately taken to a hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.

Pirated CDs seized

New Delhi: Over 90,000 pirated CDs of Hindi blockbusters and a huge quantity of inlay cards worth around Rs 20 crore have been seized during a raid at a factory in South-West Delhi.
