THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Shangrila Art Gallery set up by the Society for Protection of Cultural Heritage at PTP Nagar was inaugurated on Saturday by Principal Secretary to Prime Minister T.K.A. Nair. A special exhibition paying tributes to world-renowned painter Raja Ravi Varma was also organised in connection with the inauguration of the gallery. The painting exhibition will be on till November 30. A press note issued in Thiruvananthapuram said Mr. Nair wished the gallery all success in its mission to nurture the art of painting and Indian cultural traditions. In his address, chairman of the Society for Protection of Cultural Heritage J. Sasikumar said the gallery has been set up to popularise and democratise the art of painting. The gallery would help in providing better exposure to painters, the release said. The inaugural ceremony was attended, among others, by retired Additional Chief Secretary D. Babu Paul, musician Ramesh Narayan and Industries Secretary T. Balakrishnan. A documentary on Raja Ravi Varma was also screened on the occasion, the press note added.
