Gruesome incident

This refers to the gruesome killing of the Bhotmange family in Kherlanji village of Maharashtra. Though some men have been arrested in connection with the incident some of the main perpetrators are allegedly roaming free.

That the Deputy Chief Minister has dismissed Dalits' protests against the killing as politically motivated is a matter of shame. Offering monetary compensation every time such heinous crimes occur is no solution to the problem of casteism that is prevalent throughout India even among the so-called educated sections.

Similar incidents in the past have made headlines in the media but nothing has been done to prevent their recurrence. Is it not appalling that Dalit women are being paraded naked and raped in the 21st century? Is this what we have achieved in 59 years of Independence?
