On cycle to spread Mahatma's message

Staff Reporter

JAMMU: They belong to Tamil Nadu, but for the husband-wife duo the entire country is home.

Karuppiah and Chitra, who are on a countrywide cycling expedition, were received by members of the Lions Club on Sunday as they arrived here after pedalling for 90 days, covering a distance of 5,000 km.

The couple, in their mid-thirties, started their expedition on July 15 from the Gandhi Museum in Madurai. Mr. Karuppiah said they wanted to propagate Mahatma's philosophy of non-violence, spread unity among the people to eradicate terrorism and violence, cultivate unity among all religions and uplift the status of women. Their return journey, covering 7,000 km, will take 125 days.
