Concern over "poor law and order situation"

Special Correspondent

Puducherry: General secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) V. Narayanasamy MP has expressed concern over "poor law and order situation" in the Union Territory.

Addressing newsmen here on Sunday, Mr. Narayanasamy said a Youth Congress committee functionary was found murdered a few days ago. Political interference was hampering investigation by the police. Asserting that steps should be taken to prevent deterioration of law and order, Mr. Narayanasamy called upon Lt Governor Mukut Mithi and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy to intervene and ensure that "Goondas Act" was enforced in the Union Territory.

Asked if his criticism that law and order was in a shambles in Puducherry would not embarrass the Chief Minister Mr Narayanasamy said he was only interested in maintaining the good image of the Government.
