KOLLAM: Minister for Tourism Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that the Government will consider taking over 600 acres of a private estate near Achencoil for the development of eco-tourism projects in the eastern sector of the district. He was talking to mediapersons on Sunday on arrival for inspection of the Thenmala Eco-Tourism Project. The Minister also took a boat ride in the catchment area of the Thenmala Dam. Mr. Balakrishnan said the development projects to come up on the land would include an amusement park and other tourism-oriented projects. Directions have been given to Director of Eco-Tourism Narayanan Kutty for the preparation of the feasibility report. The Minister said the biggest factor impeding the development of the Thenmala project was the lack of accommodation for tourists. It was decided to overcome it. He said a police station would come up at Thenmala and the outpost at Aryankavu on the State's borderwould be revived. Inaugurating the Police Circle Inspector's Office at Kulathupuzha, the Minister said the 70 police stations functioning from rented premises would move into their own buildings within four years.
