Hoax bomb: caller identified

Raichur: The Raichur police have claimed to have identified the person who made a phone call on Saturday claiming that a bomb had been planted at the Vidhana Soudha in Bangalore. He is suspected to be Hanumanth (30) of Sajjalgudda village in Lingasugur taluk. However, he is absconding. The police zeroed in on him based on his cell phone number. A police team visited the village on Sunday. Police said Hanumanth had identified himself as Upendra when he made the call. — Staff Correspondent

Kumaraswamy for Belgaum

Belgaum: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy will visit Belgaum on Monday and meet KLE Society Chairman and Congress leader Prabhakar B. Kore, MLC, who is recovering from bullet injuries at his residence. According to sources, Mr. Kumaraswamy would present the Rajyotsava Award to Mr. Kore. Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa will arrive here at 11 a.m. and leave for M. Chandargi to participate in an all-religion meeting. — Staff Correspondent

Nayak's birth centenary

BIJAPUR: The birth centenary celebrations of V.B. Nayak, founder editor of a local daily Sandarshana, will be held on November 16. In a statement, former Minister B.S. Patil Sasanur, who is the president of the reception committee of the event, said former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh would inaugurate the event. — Staff Correspondent

Jalappa's plea

BANGALORE: R.L. Jalappa, Congress MP, has urged Jnanpith Award winner Girish Karnad to write to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi seeking an inquiry into the allegations against Bangalore Doordarshan Kendra Director Mahesh Joshi. A probe into the allegations against Mr. Joshi would help Mr. Karnad get himself cleared of all charges, Mr. Jalappa said in a statement here on Saturday. Mr. Karnad had criticised Mr. Jalappa for making "false" allegations against him . — Special Correspondent

Bangalore: Hong Kong Kannada Sangha, an organisation of Kannada-speaking people in Hong Kong, will celebrate "Suvarna Karnataka Rajyotsava" on November 25 in Central Hong Kong. Aralumallige Parthasarathy, Haridasa scholar, will be the chief guest. — Staff Reporter
