Report on CET to be submitted today

CHENNAI: The Anandakrishnan committee, constituted by the State Government to examine the modalities of abolishing the common entrance test for professional undergraduate admissions, will submit its final report to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Monday.

The expert committee, chaired by former Anna University Vice Chancellor M. Anandakrishnan, has been seeking opinions from students and educationists on the issue and has also examined past examination records to establish a legal ground for abolishing the CET. — Special Correspondent

NLC gesture to Cancer Institute

CHENNAI: Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited on Friday donated Rs.25 lakh to the Adyar Cancer Institute.

According to a release, the Corporation made the donation as part of its corporate social responsibility and to enable the Institute to continue its noble service to the afflicted persons and in combating the killer disease. NLC chairman and managing director S. Jayaraman handed over the cheque to the Institute chairperson V. Shantha. — Special Correspondent

Meenakshi temple trust chairman

CHENNAI: Karumuttu Kannan is the chairman of the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple Trust.

This was announced by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Sunday. An official release said four trustees including Rukmini Palanivel Rajan had also been appointed. — Special Correspondent

Traders' Welfare Board re-constituted

CHENNAI: The State Government on Sunday announced the re-constitution of the Traders' Welfare Board.

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi is the chairman and his deputy is the Minister for Commercial Taxes S.N.M. Ubayadullah. Twenty members including R. Chokkar, former Member of the Legislative Assembly, had been named, according to an official release. — Special Correspondent

Nine new members to Wakf Board

CHENNAI: Nine new members were appointed to the Wakf Board on Sunday.

An official release said Members of Parliament K.M. Khader Mohideen and J.M. Aaron Rashid and Members of Legislative Assembly M. Khaleelur Rahman and S. Syed Ghouse Basha were among the new appointees.

K. Allaudin, an officer of the Indian Administrative Service, would be the Government representative. — Special Correspondent

Appointed minorities panel chief

CHENNAI: Fr. Vincent Chinnadurai has been made chairman of the State Minorities Commission.

P.C. Reddi, V. Abdur Rahim, Pyarelal Jain, Nagoor Zafarullah and Vasanthi Stanley were the other members of the Commission, according to an official release. — Special Correspondent

TNOU to offer

B.Ed in Tamil

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Open University has been permitted by the National Council for Teacher Education to offer B.Ed degree programmes through distance education in Tamil, a release here said.
