PARAMETER CHECK: Over 60,000 people were screened at the first major monsoon health camp held in Chennai on Sunday.
CHENNAI: The State Government is planning to hold health camps across the State in collaboration with local bodies. The programme will involve non-governmental organisations, Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin said on Sunday. After inaugurating the first major monsoon health camp at the Corporation Primary School in Giriappa Salai in T. Nagar, he said the programme came under the `Namakku naamae' scheme ("we for ourselves"), implemented in city corporations. At the camps held in all 155 Chennai Corporation wards, about 61,000 people were screened. A total of 500 doctors, 800 nurses and 5,200 paramedics were involved. Around Rs. 1 crore was spent on the programme and 400 types of medicines were distributed free. People were screened for eye ailments, diabetes, skin and respiratory problems, said P. Guhanandhan, Health officer of Chennai Corporation.
