Johor Tigers triumphs

NEW DELHI: Johor Tigers, Malaysia, won the Indian Open polo championship beating Jindal Steel and Power 12-11 in a nail-biting finish here on Sunday.

Argentine Santiago de Estrada struck seven goals, including the winner at the stroke of full time, as Johor Tigers staved off a late resistance from Jindals and its vociferous supporters.

Martin Ravina slotted in three goals for the Johor team that essentially comprised two Indians and two Argentine players. Ravi Rathore and Manupal Godara scored one apiece for the winner.

Jindals kept a close watch throughout with Samir Suhag in a fine form. He struck 10 goals in all, but ended up on the losing side. Ramiro Garros was the other scorer for Jindals. — Principal Correspondent
