Hong Kong : Defending champion India suffered a 48-run defeat at the hands of Pakistan in the semifinals of a six-a-side cricket tournament here on Sunday. Captain Imran Nazir (28), Yasir Arafat (31) and Hassan Raza (32) belted the Indian attack with utter ruthlessness to amass 131 runs, the highest total in the tournament so far. Pakistan, however, lost to a Nicky Boje-led South African team by 12 runs in the title clash. South Africa became richer by $100,000 while Pakistan, as runner-up, earned a purse of $50,000. Later, India defeated West Indies by two wickets to finish third. Chasing 132 to make it to the final, India began badly, losing last year's man-of-the-series Reetinder Singh Sodhi (8) early. Sanjay Bangar, who top-scored with 30, led the chase, but the Indians lacked the firepower in their willows to overhaul such a huge total. PTI
