Karthikeyan steals the show

Coimbatore: R. Karthikeyan of Chennai won the gold in the men's 105kg category on the final day of the Tamil Nadu State senior weightlifting championship for men and women at the Southern Railway Signal Telecommunication Training School auditorium here on Sunday.

Karthikeyan snatched 128kg and followed it up with a 160kg in jerk in his second attempt for a total of 288 to win the gold.

The results: Men: 85kg: 1. D. Ragesh (Tvlr) 257 (125, 132); 2. P. Saravanan (Trcy) 215 (92, 123); 3. N. Anandan (MPT) 202 (80, 122). 94kg: 1. J. Umamaheswaran (Kanchi) 241 (98, 143); 2. U. Rajasekar (Pud) 182 (80, 102); 3. C. Priyaranjan (Pud) 140 (60, 80). 105kg: 1. R. Karthikeyan (Chennai) 288 (128, 160); 2. M. Kumar (Cbe) 232 (100, 132); 3. K. Martin Michael Raj 212 (92, 120). Above 105kg: 1. M. Udayakumar (Tvlr) 235 (105, 130); 2. N. Elangovan (Nkl) 197 (95, 102); 3. J. Kamal (Cbe) 177 (82, 95).

Team championship: 1. Thiruvallur 205 pts; 2. Kancheepuram 177. Outstanding weightlifter: C. Chinnrasu (Tvlr).
