AFC chief has mixed feelings

Principal Correspondent

KOLKATA: The president of the Asian Football Confederation, Mohamed bin Hammam, has said the Indian efforts to develop the game in India was encouraging, but the results were still far from satisfactory.

Speaking at a news conference here on Sunday, Mr. Hammam stressed on the need for sustained effort at all levels.

"I do not want to paint a rosy picture. A lot of work has been done at the administrative level, but we are still far from satisfied with the results,'' he said.

Relating to the prospect of Vision Asia as a development tool, he said it was the first step in a long journey.

"The first Vision Asia project was launched two years ago in China. We recently launched the State league in Manipur under the Vision India project. It is just the beginning and the road ahead is long,'' he said adding that any project of this nature would need 10 to 15 years to mature.
