LUCKNOW: Senior Congress leader and AICC treasurer, Motilal Vora on Sunday attacked Mulayam Singh Yadav Government for what he said the blatant misuse of official machinery, massive rigging, booth capturing and intimidation of voters by Samajwadi Party activists during the recently concluded local bodies polls. Had the elections been held in an impartial, free and fair manner, the performance of the Congress would have been far better, he said here.

The former Uttar Pradesh Governor said the Congress would emerge as a force to reckon with after the coming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and the party would play an important role in the formation of the next Government.

On the demand by Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee for imposition of the President's Rule in the State, Mr. Vora said law and order in the State had deteriorated too much and now it is for the Centre to decide if the situation warranted imposition of President's Rule.

Refering to Mulayam Singh Yqadav's challenge in the State Vidhan Sabha on Saturday to Congress and the Centre to dare dismiss his Government, the senior Congress leader took an exception to the challenge saying Mr. Yadav had formed his Government with Congress support, which was still supporting it to keep the communal forces at bay.

Mr. Vora, who is party's incharge of Uttaranchal, said the Congress under the leadership of Chief Minister N D Tiwari and State Congress President Harish Rawat would again get absolute majority and form the Government in Uttranchal.

He said only Congress could provide stable Government and give a fillip to the industrial development there. Mr. Vora praised the four-and-a-half-year's Congress rule in Uttaranchal and claimed that the State had become self sufficient in power, drinking water and irrigation facilities besides creating a network of cemented roads.- PTI
